Standalone Last of Us Multiplayer Experience Coming Next Year
The Summer Game Fest began today, and one of the most exciting announcements for The Last of Us fans was a standalone multiplayer game set in the franchise's universe. While little is known about the upcoming spin-off game so far, it was revealed that Naughty Dog will share more throughout 2023, which is when the game will come out.
It has almost been nine years since The Last of Us first released on the PlayStation 3, and 2 years since The Last of Us Part 2 came out on the PlayStation 4. Fans have been very excited since then for a third game in the series, especially with news of a remake of the original game being in development, as well as the upcoming HBO adaptation coming soon. However, Naughty Dog surprised a lot of gamers with the announcement of a brand-new The Last of Usstandalone installment during the Summer Game Fest.

This new The Last of Us game will be a multiplayer title that introduces fans to new characters in an original, unique story. A screenshot was shown during the announcement, revealing a huge city in the United States as the main setting, and a couple of new characters, though it wasn't confirmed if these will be the main protagonists of the spin-off or not.
While Neil Druckmann, the creative director and writer of The Last of Us games didn't reveal a lot about this new multiplayer title, he did say that more information about it would be revealed next year, giving fans a lot to look forward to.
