The Last of Us TV show has added original voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson from the game in new roles to its cast. Naughty Dog's first The Last of Us game came out in 2013 and became an instant hit among players who raved about its post-apocalyptic adventure storyline. A second game, The Last of Us 2, found similar success, inspiring Sam Raimi to develop a film adaptation of the game series. The movie remained in development hell for several years, until HBO finally leaped in, announcing its plans for a big-budget The Last of Us TV show, which will also be the network's first series to be based on a video game. The HBO show is being written by the original game director and writer Neil Druckmann, and it is expected to premiere sometime in 2023.
Production on The Last of Us has been well underway in Canada, and it's expected to wrap up later this month. So far the pricey game adaptation has recruited some of the best talents from Hollywood in main and guest roles, in addition to a few lesser-known stars who will imbue the show with a sense of freshness. The Mandolorian star Pedro Pascal is leading the cast as Joel, a smuggler and survivor who will take charge of escorting the teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the country to find a cure for an infection caused by a mutated Cordyceps fungus that turns humans into zombie-like creatures. Joining Ramsey and Pascal as a series regular is Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy, Joel's younger brother. Other supporting stars include Nick Offerman, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, Rutina Wesley, and Anna Torv, while Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, and Storm Reid are expected to appear in cameo roles.
