This week, Naughty Dog unveiled one of its worst-kept secrets: The Last of Us Remake. Officially titled The Last of Us Part 1, this remake is built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5. However, the project seems to have split fans. While some argue that it is too soon for such a remake, others are eager to experience the game using the full power of the PS5.
During Summer Game Fest, Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann made an appearance to officially unveil The Last of Us Part 1. Of course, some of the excitement in the announcement had been ruined by a PlayStation Direct leak that confirmed the remake hours prior. Still, Druckmann and co were eager to share a first look at the 2013 classic that took the world by storm.

However, the game’s announcement seems to have created a rift amongst fans. Several Twitter and Reddit threads have popped up debating the necessity of such a remake. Specifically, many are arguing that the graphical upgrade is not noticeable enough to warrant a re-release. One thread over on Reddit, simply called “Here’s Your Remake, Bro”, shows off a still of Ellie from the original game compared to the same scene from the remake.
The comments are filled with people either noting that they cannot tell a large difference between the two images or pointing out exactly what looks to have been improved upon. One commenter points out that the remake may be too soon when they cannot tell “which is supposed to be the new one”. Another commenter notes that the images show off graphical improvements, including smoother lighting and more defined textures.
