Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been dropped from Konami’s football games following recent sexual assault allegations.
Greenwood was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on January 30 and held on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.
He was further arrested for sexual assault and threats to kill in early February, before being bailed pending further investigation.
Following his arrest, EA dropped Greenwood from FIFA 22, and eFootball publisher Konami has now taken similar action.
“In light of the serious allegations made against Mason Greenwood, the player will be removed from our football titles until further notice,” Konami said in a statement provided to The Athletic.
“Specifically for PES 2021 on mobile, users cannot newly obtain the player, but existing owners are unaffected. KONAMI condemns violence of any kind. While police inquiries are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
Football Manager developer Sports Interactive said it would decide whether to remove 20-year-old Greenwood from its series once the current police investigation has been concluded.
“On previous occasions where players have been suspended by their clubs under similar circumstances, we have removed them from the game at the earliest opportunity,” it said.
Sportwear giant Nike also dropped the footballer on Monday. “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete,” it said in a statement.
