Konami has issued a fresh clarification on the resolution and framerate of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
In a statement issued to IGN, Konami said Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 has a 1080p/60fps “target” on all platforms except for Nintendo Switch. This means the collection targets 1080p/60fps on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Specifically on Switch, the collection runs at 720p/30fps in handheld mode, and targets 1080p/30fps docked.
The clarification comes after confusion stemming from a hands-on preview session for the collection on Nintendo Switch. Konami's professed commitment to authenticity seemingly included releasing the collection in 720p on all platforms, but Konami is now denying this is the case. While the collection includes plenty of bonus content, it is otherwise a fairly straightforward port of the original Metal Gear Solid HD Collection from 2012.
IGN’s own Metal Gear Solid Master Collection preview mentions noticeable slowdown and the lower framerate in the Switch version. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection reportedly also includes a warning for content that “may be considered outdated”.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is set to release October 24 on PC, Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S.
