Knockout City will be going free-to-play in Season 6 this Spring and will be self-published by Velan Studios instead of being an EA Original.
The fifth season of Knockout City will be called "Greatest Hits" to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the game and is described as "a celebration of the best that Year 1 of Knockout City had to offer". With that in mind, it'll be bringing back Superpowers, Chain Reaction, Basketbrawl, and other features from the seasons so far, as well as new customisation options, a new special event and a new season of League Play.

The biggest news to come out of the announcement is that Knockout City will be going free-to-play in Season 6, kicking off the game's second year by allowing everyone to play. Knockout City was previously free up to a certain point, but will now be completely free from the start. A special Season 6 Loyalty Bundle will be available for those who bought the game previously, giving them exclusive legendary cosmetics, XP boosts, and 2,000 Holobux as a thank you for the support.
The move to free-to-play means that Velan Studio will now be self-publishing Knockout City, moving away from being an EA Original. On the switch, Velan Studios said, "We couldn’t have introduced Knockout City to the world without the incredible support of EA Originals, but now as we switch to free-to-play, the natural next step is for us to take over publishing responsibilities and work even more closely with our community. We have exciting plans for Knockout City, and bringing publishing in-house will allow us to fully realize our vision for the long-term future of this game."
