Marvel president Kevin Feige had an original pitch for Avengers: Endgame with far more brutal fates for the main characters than what they ended up experiencing. In Endgame, directors Joe and Anthony Russo crafted a plot of more epic proportions than any Avengers film had ever seen. During its tantamount 3-hour run time, Endgame united Marvel heroes from across the films. Endgame is still the highest grossing Marvel movie of all-time, making over $2.7 billion at the worldwide box office.
With all of Endgame’s excitement as the allies teamed up to restore balance in the universe, the film invoked its fair share of tears. While several of the Avengers and their fellow heroes lived to the end of the battles in Endgame, several characters died along the way. The most notable of which was, of course, Tony Stark / Iron Man, who died in battle, famously saying “I am Iron Man” shortly before his death. Black Widow also fell to her death during the course of Endgame, killing off a second major character.

As if these deaths were not tragic enough, the Russo brothers reveal that Feige actually pitched a plan for Avengers: Endgame that killed off far more of the series’ heroes. While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige originally pitched an ending to Endgame where not just two, but all six of the original Avengers would see their deaths in Endgame. This of course would include Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and Hawkeye in addition to Black Widow and Iron Man. Anthony Russo admits that this pitch was in the “early days” before Endgame even had a script, but nonetheless the directors discussed that potential with Feige before ultimately deciding
