Kevin Feige's plan to kill the original Avengers in Avengers: Endgame proves that he isn't always right. It would be an understatement to say that there was massive pressure to stick the landing for the 2019 Marvel Studios blockbuster. Luckily, the MCU created a satisfying film as Avengers: Endgame delivered on all fronts. Had things gone differently, however, such as if they had followed Feige's initial plan for the film, the outcome would have been vastly different.
In a brand new interview with directors Joe and Anthony Russo, they revealed Feige's suggestion that Avengers: Endgame should kill Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Captain America (Chris Evans). The idea behind this is to progressively increase the emotional intensity of the film as the MCU's Big Three get taken down one by one. Ultimately, the Russos pushed back and lobbied for their version of the film concocted with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely which only killed off Tony Stark, gave Steve Rogers a creative exit, and kept Thor in the MCU.

In hindsight, Feige's suggestion would have been a huge mistake, highlighting the fact that he isn't always correct. Seeing Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all die one after another would feel repetitive and lose value. At least, Avengers: Endgame wrote Stark and Rogers out of the MCU differently. Secondly, it would have robbed fans of the great 3 vs. Thanos (Josh Brolin) fight in the film because one or two of the heroes would have already been dead before the third act — unless they had simply crammed all the deaths into the final hour.
