The MCU has proven multiple times that Iron Man is ultimately correct in Captain America: Civil War. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with the script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the 2016 film set the stage for the Infinity Saga's culmination in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. At its core, however, Captain America: Civil War was a character study for the Avengers' co-leaders, Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America.
Inspired by the Marvel Comics narrative of the same title, Marvel Studios took some liberties when making Captain America: Civil War. The initial conflict between Iron Man and Captain America was about the MCU's introduction of the Sokovia Accords, legal documents imposed by the United Nations mandating that all enhanced beings be registered. Steve Rogers/Captain America was against it, arguing that the best hands were still their own — a sentiment motivated by his traumatic experience in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Meanwhile Tony Stark/Iron Man was for it, citing that without limits, they were no better than the bad guys, and fighting the mandate would only make things more difficult for them moving forward. Their difference of opinions was irreconcilable, forcing the rest of the Avengers to each pick a side.
