The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced on Monday, June 13, that it has joined the annual NASA space apps challenge, a global hackathon, this year. The competition is named Space Apps 2022 challenge and will be managed by the Earth Science Division, Science Mission Directorate, at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. ISRO posted about this event on its website. According to the post, the NASA organized annual global hackathon first began in the year 2012. The aim of the competition is to “make inventive solutions to real-world challenges using actual data from space”, according to the NASA event page. Apart from ISRO, the Space Apps 2022 challenge will also see participation from space agencies of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe (ESA), Japan, Argentina, Bahrain, Paraguay, South Africa and more. “The two-day event inspires collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking that fosters interest in Earth and space science and exploration. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about the NASA’s/ ISRO open data, foster interest in earth and space science technology, and encourage and nurture the interest in STEAM in the young generation,” ISRO stated in the post.
