iOS 16 may be a wonderfully polished mobile OS, but it's rendering some iOS games unplayable due to how it handles three-finger swipes and taps.
As 9To5Mac reports(Opens in a new window), while many existing apps and games continue to work fine once iOS 16 is installed, some rely on three-finger input as part of their gameplay. Notably, rhythm games such as Arcaea(Opens in a new window) require such input, but if your device is running iOS 16 it now pops up the undo/cut/copy/paste menu when three-finger tapping, or undo and redo input when three-finger swiping.
This isn't a new problem Apple is facing. When iOS 13 launched back in 2019, there was a similar issue which Apple solved by stopping iOS reacting to three-finger gestures when a full-screen app such as a game was being played. Somehow that bit of logic didn't make its way into iOS 16, though, so gamers are frustrated and affected developers are left patiently waiting for Apple to realize and hopfully implement a quick fix.
The good news is, the problem isn't limited to just games. Sometimes a system menu can be triggered in the iOS Camera app if you three-finger pinch, or in GarageBand when playing the keyboard. Why is that good news? Because Apple is much more likely to notice and react quickly to problems in its own software and apps than third-party games. For now, though, the problem remains in the latest iOS 16.1 build.
