The massive GTA 6 video leak also includes the game’s source code, with the hacker looking to ‘negotiate a deal’ with Rockstar Games.
Most leaks of video game news are done purely for internet kudos, with the people responsible usually turning out to be fans. But it seems the leak of dozens of videos from GTA 6’s development has not just been done out of idle curiosity.
Although it’s difficult to verify exactly what’s going on, since the original public posts have now been taken down, it seems as if the last comment from leaker teapotuberhacker saw them claiming the news has gone ‘unexpectedly’ viral.
They then invited Rockstar, or owners Take-Two, to contact them and ‘negotiate a deal’. Although some purely nefarious hacks, such as the Capcom one from 2020, do see the publisher being blackmailed usually the company does not give in.
What’s going to happen here is difficult to say though, as the GTA hacker may simply be chancing their arm and is likely to already be well out of their depth.
Nevertheless, they’ve apparently said they’re not accepting offers for GTA 5’s source that are less than five figures (i.e. less than $10,000 – which seems absurdly low).
Meanwhile, there are already reports that someone pretending to be the hacker has scammed an unspecified mark out of $100,000 for the source code, without releasing anything.
Supposedly the GTA 6 source code is not for sale ‘at this moment’, with the implication it could be later.
It’s also possible the hacker could have got hold of confidential material that they haven’t yet mentioned in public, with suggestions that they also discovered evidence of Bully 2.
Either way, their threat to release a playable demo of GTA 6 would be extremely damaging if it went through, not least
