A hacker has got hold of almost a 100 videos and screenshots of GTA 6, as Rockstar Games desperately tries to remove them from the internet.
What looks to be one of the biggest hacks ever for an upcoming video game involves dozens of videos, multiple screenshots, and possibly even source code for Grand Theft Auto 6.
It already seems clear that the leaked content is real, as not only would the videos be near impossible to fake, especially given how many there are, but Rockstar Games owner Take-Two has had them all taken down – a sure sign that they are in fact real.
Most of the videos last for only a few seconds, with the longest being just under three minutes. They’re from what is obviously quite early in development, with all of the footage showing Rockstar’s development tools in use, rather than being snippets of actual gameplay.
Although that makes it sounds like an inside job, supposedly the leak is the result of a hack, which is hugely embarrassing for Rockstar Games – and reminiscent of a similarly sized leak of The Last Of Us Part 2, long before the game was released.
We can’t show any of the images or videos for legal reasons but while the original thread on GTAForums has been taken down it’s not hard to find tweets and reposts if you start googling for ‘GTA 6 leak’.
Despite the size of the leak, the amount of hard information that can be discerned from the videos and screenshots is relatively minor. One major giveaway though, is that the setting does seem to be Vice City, with a tram having the city’s name written on it.
That detail, like anything else, could be changed before the final game is released – which isn’t expected to happen for at least two years – but at the moment Vice City seems to be the plan.
