The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is in a pretty weird place right now. Despite only being revealed less than a year ago, it's already been hit with an unexpected delay, and an even more unexpected change of developer. As was revealed this week, Aspyr is out, and Saber Interactive is in. And now, it turns out that this change of hands won't be as seamless as the publisher is promising.
According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the KOTOR remake needs so much more work that even a release by 2024 is "wishful thinking". This comes after Embracer Group reassured investors that it doesn't expect "any material delays", with some reports even suggesting it would be with us by the end of this year.

"If you believe that an entire-ass video game can just seamlessly switch developers without any delays, I've got a Wookiee to sell you", tweeted Jason Schreier (spotted by Comic Book), who originally got the scoop on the game's messy development cycle.
He later doubled down on this claim stating that "even 2024 is wishful thinking unless they pare down the scope of the project". This was in response to a report that the game could release as soon as late 2022, despite earlier claims that it had been delayed indefinitely.
Even before Schreier's comments, the suggestion that the KOTOR remake would be ready to release by Q4 2022 was largely dismissed by fans. Ever since its short teaser last September, we've seen nothing from the game at all. So all we have to go on is a few frames of a masked Revan - hardly inspiring confidence.
