A photo shared by Indiana Jones 5 producer Frank Marshall reminds audiences just how long the legacy sequel starring Harrison Ford has been delayed. Ford is returning for the untitled fifth Indiana Jones film to reprise his role as the titular bullwhip-wielding archaeologist alongside Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the female lead and Fantastic Beasts 3's Mads Mikkelsen, an actor known for his various villainous roles. Additional newcomers also include Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas.
The upcoming Indiana Jones film will be the first installment in the long-running Lucasfilm franchise not directed by Steven Spielberg and without a story written by George Lucas. Taking over for Spielberg is James Mangold, the two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind Logan and Ford v Ferrari, directing on a script he co-wrote with Ford v Ferrari screenwriters Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. Filming finally began in June 2021 and concluded earlier this year. With a release date of June 30, 2023, Indiana Jones 5 is still a long way off.
