Marvel Studios has debuted the first trailer for I Am Groot at this year's Comic-Con. The series is a five-episode animated anthology that will follow the character Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Groot is a sentient living tree who can only speak using the phrase «I am Groot,» a phraseology that can only be understood by his partner in crime, Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper). After his noble sacrifice to protect his friends at the end of the original 2014 film, he began to be reborn from a twig, growing from a baby to a moody teenager through the timeline of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
I Am Groot is just one part of Disney+'s extended Guardians of the Galaxy content, which will also include a holiday special coming later this year. The five shorts, which were all directed by Kirsten Lepore, are photorealistically animated and are set to premiere on the streaming service on August 10, 2022. The show will follow the adventures of Baby Groot, filling in some of his offscreen exploits between films. The show's voice cast includes both Diesel and Cooper reprising their roles as Groot and Rocket.
