Players can customize their character with different skins like the Insectoid in the wave-based shooter Hypercharge: Unboxed. An indie title from 2020, this first- and third-person shooter takes place in various home and workplace environments as players take charge of an action figure tasked with saving the Hypercore from waves of enemy soldiers and robots. Like other wave-based shooters, players have to defeat all of the waves to beat levels and achieve different rank scores.
Hypercharge: Unboxed has various levels where players are small soldiers navigating huge obstacles. One level, Fort Jeep, takes place in a garage where players can jump from one object to the next, trying to find all enemy soldiers and destroy them before they get to the Hypercore. Another map, Action Attic, involves players jumping from the wooden beams in the ceiling to boxes on the floor and shelving units. With its toy soldiers, bright colors, and waxy appearance, Hypercharge: Unboxed resembles a videogame version of the 1998 film Small Soldiers.
