Sony has just released the latest system software update for PS5. If you're keeping tabs on the version number, we're now at version 23.01-07.00.00. What does this 1.1GB update actually do, though? Quite a lot, as it turns out. This is the official release of the firmware that's been in beta for a while, integrating Discord as well as adding lots of quality-of-life changes.
As mentioned, Discord integration is the headline event here. Once you've synced up your PSN and Discord accounts, you will be able to start a voice chat on the latter and then join it via your PS5, which is a convenient way of chatting with your pals whether they're on PS5 or not.
Elsewhere, those using a 1440p display can now toggle on VRR to smooth out any choppiness in the image. Game hubs have been expanded to include time played, overall progress percentage, and a Friends Who Play tile that lets you see who has a game and who's online currently. The Trophy activity card has been moved and adjusted to make it more convenient.
There are also improvements to the screen reader feature, Game Base, and game library. Oh, and software updates are also available for the DualSense, DualSense Edge, and PSVR2 Sense Controllers. In the US and UK, a preview expands the Voice Command function to include commands for saving video clips of gameplay.
