WhatsApp says that since it introduced multi-device compatibility in 2021, it has seen an increase in the number of users who access WhatsApp through a web browser from their computers.
The multi-device compatibility allows people to use WhatsApp on up to four devices without needing their phone to be online. WhatsApp Web has been around for a few years now, but the previous version did not work unless users had an active internet connection on their smartphone. In order to safeguard users who use WhatsApp on multiple devices, the company also introduced two-step verification to protect their WhatsApp accounts from unauthorized access.

For users who want even more security while using WhatsApp Web, the new Code Verify extension is available to download on the official Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge extension stores. As mentioned by Meta in an official post, "Code Verify expands on the concept of subresource integrity, a security feature that lets web browsers verify that resources they fetch haven't been manipulated." To check whether the messages sent via WhatsApp Web are secure, users will need to download and install the web extension on their browser. When users log in to WhatsApp Web, the Code Verify extension will automatically check for any security issues.
