At its launch, there are sixteen characters players have access to in the new platform fighting game, MultiVersus. This game follows others like Marvel's Avengers, Nickelodeon's All-Star Brawl, and Nintendo's Super Smash Bros by pitting characters from across the Warner Bros. universe against each other in combat. Four characters come with the base game, while the additional 12 are unlockable.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play game, so to generate revenue, the developers are using microtransactions. Players can purchase in-game currencies, like Gleamium in the MultiVersus store, to unlock different customizations. In addition to Gleamium, players can pre-purchase Founder's Packs which come with Gleamium, customizations, and more.

Of the sixteen starting characters in MultiVersus, four are available to play from the beginning: Shaggy from Scooby Doo, Jake the Dog from Adventure Time, Harley Quinn from DC Comics, and Taz from Looney Tunes. The remaining 12 characters can be unlocked by either playing through the game, completing missions, or buying them from the in-game store.
