Warner Bros Games has explained how MultiVersus‘ free character rotation system will work.
When the free-to-play fighting game officially launched its open beta phase on Tuesday, some players had already been playing it for a week due to an early access period.
However, it soon emerged after the open beta update that the four ‘free’ characters available during that first week had changed.
While Jake, Harley Quinn, Taz and Shaggy were free during the closed beta period, these are now locked. The new ‘free’ characters are Finn, Garnet, Superman and Reindog.
Although there had been previous mention of free character rotation, the information presumably hadn’t reached a number of players who were surprised by the update, with a number taking to social media to ask what would happen to the characters they’d spent the past week levelling up.
The full situation has now been explained on the game’s Discord server by Warner Bros Games’ director of social and community Nikki Grantham.
“With the start of open beta today also starts our free character preview rotation,” Grantham explained in a Discord post on Tuesday following the open beta’s release.
“Starting today, we’ll have a new section of our roster that will be free to all players that will change every two weeks.
“Character progression you earn with these characters beginning from Early Access this timeframe will be saved, so when they’re back in rotation – or if you unlock them with in-game Gold – you’ll be able to continue right where you left off.
“Moving forward, character progression will not reset. All characters will always be unlockable with in-game earnable Gold again when they come out of the free character preview rotation.
