The YouTube app on Android autoplays videos on the home screen, but this feature can be turned off from the settings. Autoplaying videos give users a preview of what to expect, but they also consume data, which can be a cause for concern when mobile data is being used. Autoplaying thumbnails can also be annoying for users who are just scrolling through their feed and don't want to see video previews.
YouTube is the world's largest crowdsourced video platform, with over two billion users worldwide. As per Statista, over 500 hours of content gets uploaded to the site every minute, which translates to about 30,000 hours of video uploaded per hour. For all its popularity, however, YouTube does have a few idiosyncrasies, including the aforementioned autoplaying thumbnails. The good news is that users can disable the feature with a few taps.

To stop YouTube's autoplaying thumbnails on an Android device, launch the app and tap on the profile picture at the top-right corner. Tap on Settings and then select General. On the General page, tap on Playback in feeds. A pop-up will appear with three options – Always on, Wi-Fi only, and Off. If the concern with autoplaying videos is data consumption, choosing Wi-Fi only might be the better choice. To turn off autoplay entirely, tap Off. The selection is automatically saved and will ensure that thumbnails no longer autoplay on that device.
Autoplaying videos in the home feed can be annoying for many users, so it's just as well that YouTube offers the option to turn it off in settings. The feature is similar to when users hover over a video thumbnail on the YouTube website and it loops a few seconds of the content.
