Those who tend to check their inbox in the evenings or are prone to eye strain can enable Gmail in dark mode, avoiding the harshness of a white or bright background. They can also find an inbox layout that makes them the most productive—instead of having messages appear in the usual chronological order, they can opt to push all unread items to the top of the inbox feed so none are missed or forgotten about. To modify the spaciousness of a Gmail inbox's view on a computer, launch Gmail on a web browser and in the top-right corner of the screen, click Settings (gear icon) to pull up the Quick settings sidebar menu. Under Density, choose one of the three available options. If accessing Gmail on an Android or iOS device, launch the app and tap Menu (hamburger icon) at the top-left corner of the screen. Scroll down and select Settings. On an iPhone or iPad, tap Conversation list density and choose one of three available views. On an Android device, users will need to go to General settings to get to Conversation list density. Hit OK to apply
