With many devices getting the Android 12 update, more users can take advantage of a new feature that lets them use their smartphone with one hand. Most smartphones these days feature large screens that are above 6-inches in size. All the latest Android flagships launched recently including the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Google Pixel 6 Pro, and even the OnePlus 10 Pro, feature displays that measure at least 6.7-inches.
Larger displays make consuming content easier on the eyes, whether it's reading text or watching videos. Additionally, good-quality displays on Android flagships produce vibrant colors that make the viewing experience even better. While holding a large smartphone in landscape orientation doesn't present much of a problem, holding it upright and using it with one hand can be uncomfortable, especially if a user wants to reach the notification shade which is at the top of the display.

To make things easier, Google has included a native one-handed mode in Android 12. The one-handed mode reduces the usable part of the screen and shrinks it vertically so that users can easily reach the controls located on the top half of the display with their thumb. It works as a screen gesture and can be enabled in an Android smartphone's Settings. Do note, gesture navigation must be enabled on a phone to use this feature. To activate the one-handed mode, open the Settings app on the smartphone and head over to System. Tap on Gestures and then tap the option that reads One-handed mode. Alternatively, type One-handed mode in the Settings search bar to bring up the menu. Make sure the Pull screen into reach option is enabled, and turn on the toggle next
