A revamped Iron Banner has returned in Destiny 2's, bringing a new introduction quest called Forging Iron as a part of Season of The Haunted. Upon speaking to Lord Saladin, players will immediately notice that he no longer offers bounties. Instead, these have been replaced with a reputation track, bringing Iron Banner in line with Destiny 2's Vanguard, Crucible, Gambit, and Gunsmith reward systems. Completing the Forging Iron quest will teach Guardians about the reworked game mode while also unlocking the ability to focus the new Iron Engrams into weapons and armor.
Iron Banner has a new activity called Rift, which pits two teams of six players against each other. The objective is to have one Guardian, called the Runner, carry a Spark to the enemy Rift. Players need to stick with their fellow Guardians and be aware of when to push the objective or defend. The Forging Iron quest will take players through their first few matches of Rift.
