An AirTag is a very useful device and it becomes even more helpful when it's customized with a memorable name, something that Apple made relatively easy to do once the location of that control is known. If using more than one AirTag, it's particularly important to match the name to the item it's attached to or placed inside. That way, it will be easy to know which beacon to search for if an item is missing.
The AirTag makes it easy to keep track of everyday items that otherwise wouldn't have the technology that allows it to be located by its owner. Finding lost keys is a classic issue that never has to happen again if attached to an AirTag key ring. A bag or backpack with an AirTag tucked inside won't ever be left behind for long since the iPhone will send a notification to alert the user that it's no longer nearby, saving the hassle of backtracking steps and wasting a part of the day to recover the item.

As handy as an AirTag can be, it's even better when each is labeled in some way that identifies which item it is traveling with. To change an AirTag's name, the user just needs to open the Find My app and tap the Items tab. Every AirTag that's paired with the iPhone will appear in a list and tapping one will bring up a panel with controls for that AirTag. Dragging the panel upward will reveal the Rename option and tapping it shows Apple's defaults or the Custom Name choice which appears at the bottom. After tapping one of these options it will appear in a text field that can then be used to change the name. Tapping Done in the upper-right corner completes the process.
