The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke reveals how the new college spinoff series, Gen V, is partly inspired by Marvel's X-Men. First released in 2019 on Prime Video, The Boys has quickly become one of the streamer's most popular shows. Chronicling the exploits of a group of vigilantes who set out to take down corrupt superheroes, The Boys recently finished airing its third season. The most recent season earned positive reviews from both audiences and critics, with praise levied at the show's complex characters and moments of pure shock.
Recently officially given the title of Gen V, The Boys' spinoff began production back in May and is expected to follow a group of superheroes during their college days. Gen V acts as the series' second spinoff after The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series set within The Boys' universe. Gen V stars Patrick Schwarzenegger, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Lizzie Broadway, Shelley Con, and Maddie Phillips, among others, and is expected to release at some point during 2023. While most specific plot details remain unknown, Schwarzenegger has previously compared Gen V to HBO's Euphoria.

He explains that, like in the case of the G-Men, part of the show will be centered on an "educational, college experience." In the same way that The Boys has since carved its own unique space in the superhero parody genre, Kripke promises that Gen V will use the G-Men as a "jumping-off point" before going off in its own unique direction.
