Actor Robert Patrick recently discussed how James Cameron changed his life after casting him in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Patrick is best known for portraying the T-1000 in Terminator 2, the sequel to The Terminator, as well for his roles in The X-Files, The Sopranos, and Peacemaker. The Terminator was a tough act to follow, but T2 managed to be just as good, and maybe even better, than the first film. The second movie in the franchise finds the original Terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprogrammed to protect the humanity's savior, John Connor, from the superior T-1000. Just as the previous movie had elevated Schwarenegger's career, T2 did the same for Patrick.
T2 managed to flip the script on what movie sequels, and science fiction villains, could look like. The film had the the original villain, the T-800, become the hero by battling the updated T-1000. The T-1000 was different from other iconic villains of this genre because it looked like a human rather than a creature. There is a an extra layer of danger surrounding the T-1000 because it pretends to be a cop for much of the movie. The T-1000 being both a killer android from the future and a seemingly normal police officer adds to the villainy by giving him a foot in the modern world. This is in contrast to the shark from Jaws or the monster from Predator, and T2 was influential in starting the trend where the scariest movie villains are fellow humans.
