Producer Jon Landau has revealed that the long-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water has passed a production milestone as work on the score begins. Landau and director James Cameron have reunited to produce the first sequel to Cameron's 2009 sci-fi blockbuster. Avatar: The Way of Water is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on December 23, a date that comes after numerous delays.
After almost 13 years, audiences are finally set to return to the fantastical world of Pandora. Following the first film's conflict between human colonizers working for the RDA organization and the native Na'vi who call Pandora their home, Avatar: The Way of Water sees Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) raise a new family of both Na'vi and human children amidst growing tensions. The first Avatar 2 trailer promised breathtaking, memorable visuals and effects that build upon what made the original film stand out upon its initial release, while offering a few hints at the film's secretive storyline. As the film's December release draws near, Landau has revealed that The Way of Water has entered a new, important stage of production.
