The showrunners of the Hulu spin-off series How I Met Your Father have revealed that they have not filmed the ending of the series yet. The show, which premiered its first two episodes on the streaming service on January 18, comes from the universe of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which ran from 2005 to 2014. The premise of that show was a man in the future telling his children the story of how he met their mother in the present day, with many twists and turns surrounding the eventual reveal of the mother's identity. Because the show ran for so long, the creators of HIMYM filmed the ending beforehand — around 2006 — so the kids would be the proper age when it was finally revealed.
How I Met Your Father, which stars Hilary Duff as the unlucky-in-love Sophie, uses a similar format, with Kim Cattrall playing Sophie in 2050 telling her son the story of how his parents met. However, the pilot makes a slight spin on the original premise: announcing that one of the men that Sophie met during the episode is the father, but not revealing which one it is. The options are Ian (Daniel Augustin), the potential perfect boyfriend who had to move to Australia, Charlie (Tom Ainsley), an upper-class British man who is currently dating her roommate and living with them, Sid (Suraj Sharma), a bar owner who just got engaged, and Jesse (Christopher Lowell), a cynical man whose heart is already being melted by Sophie's faith in love.
