House of the Dragon season 2 is officially on the way – and according to showrunner Ryan Condal, is set to start filming "shortly". Last we heard, production on the new episodes was due to kick off in March, so it's highly like that cameras will be rolling very soon.
While we don't have any news on a release date just yet, we can reportedly expect it to land in summer 2024. And that's not all we know about the follow-up chapter, either. Condal has already revealed that five new dragons will be introduced in season 2, while George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood gives a pretty good indication as to some of the bigger plot points going forwards. (Don't worry, though, we won't be getting into spoiler territory here).

House of the Dragon season 2 is rumored to be starting filming on April 17, 2023 in the UK and Spain, according to Winteriscoming.net.
However, it seems likely we can still expect a lengthy wait to see new content. Per The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), season 1 was filmed across nine months and post-production VFX work was still being done in August (after the first episode premiered). HBO Max boss Casey Bloys has said to expect a 2024 return date, more specifically in the summertime.
"My philosophy is a good script is number one priority," he previously told Variety. "I am not doing it based on wanting to have one a year, two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we're excited about."
