After the success and popularity of the original, Milestone and Plaion have announced Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged. The toy racer will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on 19th October 2023.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 ramps up the miniature arcade action with plenty of new additions. The game will have over 130 vehicles at launch, and that will include the debut of motorbikes and ATVs. They can all be customised using skill points to buy specific perks and tweak builds, and there will now be Stock, Powered and Ultimate vehicle categories.
There’s now five distinct environments to race in and through, each bringing different racing surfaces that affect vehicle performance – the trailer showed dirt and grass as the racing went outside for a moment. Helping you deal with that, there’s a new dash and jump moves. Dashing allows you to smash into rival racers, dodge past obstacles, and that can be combined with new jumps. They join the drift and boost features from the first game, and will combine to let you take advantage of hidden shortcuts.
The single player will feature four original characters and a story to drive it forward, while new game modes will feature in both online and offline modes. Two-player split-screen is back, and there’s also cross-play on all platforms except Nintendo Switch, so you can play with any of your friends.
Fans of the original will be pleased to hear that the Track Editor has been updated with new special modules and features to allow for more diverse creations, and the Livery Editor will introduce a Sticker Editor for creating and sharing new patterns and shapes. Everything will be shareable cross-platform from day one.
Looking back on the first game,
