The Horizon franchise is filled with interesting people and groups that work to either help Aloy in her quests or prevent her from accomplishing them. One of these groups, the Sons of Prometheus, ties in the events of both games and gives a sense of continuity following the Meridian victory in Horizon Zero Dawn. In Horizon Forbidden West, the Sons of Prometheus act as a secondary antagonist that allied with Sylens and Regalla’s Rebels in their mission to take out the Far Zeniths.
The Sons of Prometheus also play a vital role in inadvertently helping Aloy and her allies figure out how to defeat the Far Zeniths. Being Oseram rebels, they are also direct rivals to the Carja and harbor hatred toward the Sun Kingdom and Tenakth peace. However, their alliance with Sylens is what convinced the group to join forces with Regalla and her rebels. This was a great way to connect the two Horizon games and showed the players that conflict within the world would never simply disappear.

Horizon Zero Dawn focused on the downfall of the old Sun-King Jiran and the Carja in Meridian, which forced many of the Jiran faithful to flee the Sun Kingdom. Of the Oseram that fled, the one that would go on to have a major impact in the story of Horizon Forbidden West is Asera. After leaving Meridian, she was approached by Sylens, who convinced her to form a new group of Oseram rebels that would aid Regalla in taking control of the Tenakth tribes. In return, Sylens promised to give this new group access to focuses and machine overrides to challenge Aloy and her allies in the Forbidden West.
