The much-anticipated Honkai: Star Rail release is fast approaching, but a potential surprise might sour the experience a little for Android and PC gamers. Stephen Totilo, a writer for the Axios video game newsletter, tweeted on February 21 that the game will ‘exclusively run at 120Hz on iOS’. This means the game will restrict the highest performance to those on iPads and iPhones – all the kinds of devices we don’t like talking about on Droid Gamers.
This tweet was an addendum after Axios published an article written by Totilo about developer MiHoYo, Genshin Impact, and Honkai: Star Rail.
The word on the street is Android and PC will end up locked to 60FPS, which should be plenty to play the game – especially as it’s a turn-based RPG title. It doesn’t mean the preferential treatment doesn’t sting a little, though. Was it something we said?
The developer has apparently insisted that “our development team is also working on the optimization on PC and Android devices.” Though, judging on previous titles, many Android gamers are sceptical that this will result in concrete changes.
This isn’t the first instance of MiHoYo showing some iOS favoritism. Its current most popular titles, the ARPG Genshin Impact, has a similar exclusive 120FPS for iOS players. The Android version of Genshin Impact still lacks controller support, over two years after the game’s initial release.
With past decisions on MiHoYo’s part in mind, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath about playing Star Rail at 120Hz any time in the near future.
Honkai: Star Rail is the latest RPG from MiHoYo, and the fourth in the popular Honkai series. It’s a cute, space-faring RPG that sets you out on an interplanetary railway to unlock the mystery of the Stellaron.
