Honkai Star Rail is the upcoming turn-based RPG title from developer HoYoverse, most famous for Genshin Impact. With a second closed beta test underway, there's a lot more information available about what the project looks like and how it will approach turn-based gameplay.
Screen Rant gained access to the closed beta test and, since launch, I've logged several hours into Honkai Star Rail to see how it measures up to more traditional representations of turn-based combat (think Final Fantasy) and games in the gacha space that have similar pacing (something like Fate/Grand Order).

Obviously it's far too early to pass judgment on the title, which doesn't even have a release date yet — but there's still plenty to be gleaned from its current systems. What's present during the test is a game that very much sticks to the designs that have made other HoYoverse projects popular, whether that be exploring well-designed maps or craving a new, powerful 5-Star character to add to an ever-growing roster of heroes. That's not a bad thing, though, and Honkai Star Rail seems like it's the most refined HoYoverse-style experience yet.
