New teaser gameplay for Hogwarts Legacy has revealed explorable locations not previously featured in past Harry Potter games or movies. The recent State of Play focused on Hogwarts Legacy has given an in-depth look at the controversial new installment in the Harry Potter series, showcasing how players will be able to explore the castle grounds and outside locations. While not set in the modern Harry Potter timeline, the castle will be more explorable than previous games centered around the Wizarding World.
Announced in the fall of 2020, Hogwarts Legacy has seen numerous struggles and setbacks during development. This includes the now infamous reputation of Harry Potter creator and writer J.K. Rowling, who has come under fire for increasingly strong statements against transgender women on social media. Despite this, the game's tentative release date for late 2022 is still intact, and the new trailer during the State of Play shows an expansive world and developed mechanics indicative of a game potentially nearing release.

During the State of Play streamed on the PlayStation YouTube channel, gameplay footage of a fully customizable main character exploring Hogwarts castle gives players a sneak-peek into iconic locations. Several areas, like the Hogwarts kitchens and Hufflepuff dormitories, and Ravenclaw dormitories, will be new to media outside of the original Harry Potter novels. Additionally, it appears areas like dungeons and secret rooms may be added that weren't a part of the original stories, offering locations unique to Hogwarts Legacy for players to uncover and explore.
