Hogwarts Legacy appears to be the latest current gen game set to be priced at $70 / £70, and it seems that there may be no way to upgrade from the last-gen version.
In the US, Best Buy is charging $69.99 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, versus $59.99 for the PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions. GameStop is charging the same (although it doesn’t yet have the Switch version available).
In the UK, GAME is charging £69.99 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, and £59.99 for the Xbox One and PS4 versions.
Smyths Toys in the UK is also charging more for the current gen versions, though its general prices are lower – £59.99 for current gen and £54.99 for last gen.
It’s worth noting that neither the PlayStation or Xbox digital stores have the game available for pre-order yet, so these prices may still be placeholders.
One thing that remains unknown is whether the Xbox version of the game supports Smart Delivery, which allows players to install both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X version depending on which console they insert their disc into.
Its perhaps unlikely, however, as GameStop’s box art for Hogwarts Legacy simply shows “Xbox One” on the last-gen box and “Xbox Series X” on the current-gen box.
This is similar to the box art for WWE 2K22, which also doesn’t support Smart Delivery and instead appears on the Xbox Store as two separate products (an Xbox One game and an Xbox Series X game).
This differs from a game like Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which is also being released by Warner Bros Games but which clearly shows “Xbox Series X / Xbox One” and a Smart Delivery logo on the box.
It appears, based on this, that players who buy the cheaper PS4 or Xbox One version of the game will be able to play these last-gen versions
