For some longtime fans of the series, it might be hard to believe that Halo is over two decades old. In that time, the Halo franchise has reached some truly incredible heights, with most major games in the series serving as some of the most influential first-person shooters ever made. Though, every so often, something will occur within one of the older Halo entries that shows the age of the franchise.
One of the biggest problems found within some of the earlier Halo installments is the checkpoint system. Typically, how checkpoints work in Halo is the player will cross a particular threshold within the level, and if the player dies past that point, they will respawn within that same checkpoint area. However, this can sometimes lead to some irritating problems. For instance, one Halo 3 player got caught in a checkpoint loop after boarding a covenant ship they weren't supposed to be on. Now, another player recently got caught in a similar bind.

Over on Reddit, a user named PugOverload posted gameplay footage from Halo 3 that shows them driving a warthog off a cliff, but just as the player is about to die, a checkpoint registered. The game then proceeded to load the player into the checkpoint just before the player dies, to which the player continually respawns and dies over and over.
Assumedly, Bungie included a workaround, should the player encounter an issue like this where they get caught in a checkpoint loop and continues to die in succession. Eventually, the game should reload the player into the checkpoint right before the one the player cleared, but that would likely involve having the player die an indeterminate amount of times before the game finally recognizes
