NASA released the new yearly Spinoff report showing the tech that inspired products people use every day. Those who argue that money spent in space should be used on Earth should get to know all of the things NASA has created for people. These include thermal space blankets, the computer mouse, artificial limbs, insulin pumps, firefighting equipment, selfie technology and much more.
NASA does not directly manufacture, market, or sell commercial products. However, their technology has inspired many companies. Deepspace exploration missions, the return to the moon under the Artemis program, and the recently launched Webb telescope are iconic space missions for NASA. But the agency also keeps busy making lives better on Earth with the weather, GPS satellites, climate change, wildfire, ocean studies, and lots of technology.

NASA's new 2022 Spinoff report includes amazing products from more than 40 different companies. NASA Associate Administrator, Jim Reuter, explains that this year's tech was influenced by the global pandemic. NASA "played a small role in reducing transmission and caring for the ill in the U.S. and around the world," Reuter said. NASA's favorites include robotics, weather satellites, cloud technology, clothing, food systems, and much more.
When the pandemic hit, air-quality technology became of great importance. Active Pure Technology was one of the companies that developed air-quality filters based on NASA's technology. They ran out of inventory in just weeks. Today air-filters based on NASA tech are used in intensive care units worldwide, hospitals, schools, shopping centers, buildings, airports, and businesses.
