GameCentral recommends the best board games to play as a couple, including Love Letter and the Valentine edition of Patchwork.
With the pandemic rules only just relaxing, many will still be unsure what exactly to do for Valentine’s Day this year, but have you considered playing a romantic board game with your partner?
It might not feel very traditional but getting embroiled in a co-operative or competitive board game can be a lot more intimate than a night out at a noisy restaurant. There’s even a number of games that are specifically Valentine’s themed, so you know you won’t be the only ones to be rolling a die on the most romantic day of the year.
Not all of our choices are necessarily romance related though, so if you want some less saccharine suggestions we’ve also got a couple of standard two-player dungeon crawlers as well.
Fog of LoveWant to try some couples therapy via the medium of board games? Fog Of Love is a two-player game that asks you to navigate the ups and downs of romantic relationships. How they begin, progress, and, potentially, end. You have to work through all three chapters of this role-playing hybrid to try and fulfil your relationship and come out a happier person at the end.
You must pick personality and physical traits that will affect how the player characters behave in a variety of situations. Personality aspects such as sensitivity or stubbornness are placed on the board and these eventually lead to The Destiny, which is a goal that changes along with your journey. Fog of Love is a well-designed story experience that explores complex personalities and motivations, and with its sleek minimalist design looks like an advert for a millionaires only dating app.
