The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is about to receive a new game, as F-Zero X will be racing onto the N64 app on March 11. The F-Zero franchise is all but over, with Nintendo turning down pitches for F-Zero games, to the point where the series only lives on in Captain Falcon's appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
F-Zero is a series of futuristic racing games, where ships float over tracks as they race to the head of the pack. There were F-Zero entries on the N64 and GameCube, but the last new title was released on the Game Boy Advance in 2004. The original F-Zero does have some value to Nintendo, as it's a game that has appeared on the Virtual Console in the past. F-Zero was also one of the games that arrived on Nintendo Switch Online's SNES app at launch. The company no longer seems interested in producing new F-Zero titles, or even allowing other developers to make new F-Zero games.

F-Zero X was originally released for the N64 in '98. It was the first 3D entry in the series and it introduced the Death Race mode, where players had to dispose of 29 other racers in order to win. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who pay for the premium Expansion Pack tier can download and play N64 games through an app on the system. Nintendo revealed some of the Switch's N64 games in the past, so fans knew that F-Zero X was on the way, but there is now a solid release date and it's only a few days away. A new trailer on the official Nintendo YouTube channel has announced that F-Zero X will be available to Expansion Pack subscribers on March 11, 2022.
