Helldivers 2 has been plagued by server issues since its launch, and it seems like these issues cannot be solved by simply purchasing more servers.
Speaking on X/Twitter, Arrowhead CEO and game director Johan Pilestedt commented on the game's server issues, saying they cannot just be solved by more servers. It is a matter of labor, as the developer needs to optimize the backend code since they are hitting some real limits.
Making these Helldivers 2 server issues worse are players who are essentially squatting in the servers while not actively playing the game so as not to lose their spot, which is causing the log-in queues to be excruciatingly long. The team, however, is now aware of the matter and is likely to take some action.
Server issues are really damaging Helldivers 2 right now, as they prevent the vast majority of players from actually experiencing the wacky situations they can find themselves in Ule mentioned in his review.
Helldivers 2 is broken at launch. That much is almost unquestionable. The game has many high highs and also abysmally low lows. While I can recommend it for players who are seeking a good time due to the physics and the wacky situations a group of players can find themselves in at lower difficulties, it also is a tough recommendation for players seeking thrills with challenging yet fair content. That may change in the future if the developers can fix all the bugs and connection problems.
Helldivers 2 is now available on PC and PlayStation 5 worldwide.
