Helldivers 2 is less than a day old, and it’s already proving to be an impressive success story for Sony and developer Arrowhead Game Studios. In fact, on Steam in particular, the co-op third-person shooter has found a sizeable audience.
Within hours of its release, Helldivers 2 had hit a peak of over 57,000 concurrent players on Steam, becoming Sony’s third-biggest launch on the platform by that particular metric, behind only God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Its player numbers have continued to steadily rise throughout the day though, and it now sits atop those rankings.
As per SteamDB, Helldivers 2’s peak concurrent user count on Steam now sits at 81,840. That means it’s become Sony’s biggest launch on Steam to date, holding a significant lead over God of War, which has now been pushed down to second place with an all-time peak of over 73,000 concurrent players. Though Helldivers 2 has clearly found a healthy audience on PC, it has also launched with some technical and connectivity issues, as a result of which it currently has a “Mixed” user score aggregate on Steam. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has said it’s working on a hotfix to address the most critical issues.
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC.
