The Last of Us TV show has added actor Storm Reid (Euphoria) to its cast. According to Deadline, who reported the news first, Reid will play Riley Abel--Ellie's best friend before she meets Joel.
In the PlayStation games, Riley is an orphaned girl growing up in post-apocalyptic Boston. She is prominently featured in The Last of Us: Left Behind, a DLC addition to the original game--memorably taking place in a wintry and decaying shopping mall.
Reid has also appeared in The Suicide Squad (playing Tyla DuBois) and 12 Years a Slave (playing Emily). She joins Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey (Ellie) in the cast. Diego Luna plays Tommy, and in July 2021, he shared what looks like the first set photo from the production.
Production on the HBO series wrapped in August 2021, and as the show received a straight-to-series order, the network is skipping a pilot to see if the show will go and instead launching directly into the series.
As for the game series, Naughty Dog might make The Last of Us 3, or potentially a new IP, as its next game. On the more immediate horizon, Naughty Dog is developing a standalone Last of Us multiplayer game. In other news, a recent report said Naughty Dog is also working on a Last of Us remake for PS5.
