The Umbrella Academy addresses the theme of traveling through space and time, which has made way for a theory that says Hazel is actually the same age as Agnes – but is it possible? The superhero genre has grown in the last decade, and darker stories have also been given a chance in other media, as is the case of The Umbrella Academy. Created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy made the jump to the world of streaming in 2019 thanks to Netflix, and it became an instant hit with viewers, granting it two more seasons.
The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves, seven adopted kids with superpowers who were born on the same day, at the same time, and under the same mysterious circumstances as 36 other kids around the world. This curious event caught the attention of scientist and billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), who could only adopt seven of those kids and trained them to form the Umbrella Academy. However, Reginald wasn’t a good father, so the Hargreeves ended up parting ways and didn’t talk to each other for years, and reunited years later for Reginald’s funeral and to stop the fast-approaching apocalypse. To further complicate everything, the Hargreeves also had to deal with The Commission and two agents sent after them (especially after Five): Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) and Hazel (Cameron Britton), though the latter ended up finding his own path in the process.
