Square Enix is trying its hand at farming simulators with Harvestella, which is set to release on November 4, 2022, and its Final Fantasy inspirations could set it apart from the competition. Harvestella has showcased some unique elements so far, even including more RPG features. It seems that its story, too, will be more complex and heavier than the usual sim story, including Quietus, which is the season of death.
Althoughit's a farming simulator, Harvestella features a blend of several other genres as well, such as adventure, RPG, and fighting. It seems to have taken inspiration from the Final Fantasy franchise's style in terms of combat and aesthetics, but there are also elements in Harvestella that are reminiscent of Rune Factory 5, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley.

New screenshots show Harvestella's farm spaces and decor, showing more of the inspiration that it pulls from other games. Square Enix is putting a lot into Harvestella, and is including its own iconic style to the graphics and story through the threat of Quietus, the season of death, during which the game will begin. The blend of farming, interacting with villagers, exploring, and finding threats to the livelihood of the village will set Harvestella apart from other simulation games by adding more depth and gameplay options.
It's common for farming and life simulators to have a story that revolves around restoring the town in which the game takes place.
