Michael Myers actor Nick Castle promises that Halloween Ends will be a «surprising» ending to the saga. Castle first played Michael Myers in John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic Halloween, donning the pale mask as The Shape that stalked Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode. Director David Gordon Green later took a stab at the franchise, beginning with 2018's Halloween, which served as a direct sequel to Carpenter's original film while ignoring all prior sequels. After Laurie's death in Halloween: Resurrection was retconned, Curtis returned to the role for Green's planned trilogy, playing an older version of the character who is haunted by her past, knowing Michael would return.
The 2018 Halloween sequel was a hit with critics and audiences, making over $255 million worldwide. Halloween Kills followed in 2021, which picked up the same night as the previous film, continuing Michael's killing spree as Laurie recovered from her injuries in hospital. Halloween Kills made just shy of $50 million its opening weekend, performing well as theaters were still bouncing back from the COVID-19 pandemic, and earned over $131 million with the added hindrance of being released on Peacock the same day. The third installment of Green's trilogy, Halloween Ends, is slated for release this October, promising to bring Laurie's story to a close.
