The Revenant is one of the most unique professions in all of Guild Wars 2. It uses the "mists" to channel the might of ancient heroes which gives power to the Revenant's own abilities. They are versatile, but also widely considered to be one of the trickiest classes to pick up and play proficiently.

The Revenant has multiple unique mechanics that distance it from other professions. Firstly, it uses energy as a currency to fuel its skills, which means that you need to keep track of your energy as well as cooldowns. The second major difference is in the Legends you can channel — they come with their own utility skills — which means that you can't decide what skills to put on your bar; you have to pick the right Legend for the job.
To start with we'll briefly list the unofficial "roles" that each profession can build for in the PvP modes in Guild Wars 2. They are as follows:
The Revenant can build around most of these (although they are arguably a lackluster support). The Herald can potentially make a fantastic duelist and the Renegade armed with a short bow is good damage with lots of good crowd control options — but doesn't see much play at the higher levels.
The Revenant is versatile and deadly, but complex and hard to master. The irony is that they have a Legend for any occasion, but they are restricted in choice. Revenants also have less weapon selections than most of the other heavy armor professions (the Warrior and Guardian, respectively). Revenants have access to tons of mobility, lots of high damage bursts, and some interesting support options.
