Publisher NCSOFT and developer ArenaNet have confirmed plans to launch Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons in late February. The expansion will boast new features such as co-op sailing. Originally announced in March 2020, the End of Dragons expansion took precedence at ArenaNet later that year, evidenced by the developer's indefinite delay of Guild Wars 2's Steam release.
Most consider End of Dragons the last hope for Guild War 2's long-term survival, especially following the 2019 ArenaNet layoffs that saw a significant portion of its workforce jettisoned due to declining revenue concerns. As a result, it seems safe to assume there's a lot riding on the expansion's potential success. ArenaNet began showing off End of Dragons gameplay in July 2021, teasing a robust experience that could even outshine the first two major expansions for Guild Wars 2 — 2015's Heart of Thorns and 2017's Path of Fire. Of course, whether or not End of Dragons will prove worth the wait will be left for players to decide.

In addition to announcing a February 28 release date for End of Dragons, NCSOFT and ArenaNet also unveiled new features that will launch with Guild of Wars 2's upcoming expansion. While exploring the continent of Cantha and uncovering the secrets of the Elder Dragons, players can expect to join up to four other users for "multiplayer sailing vessels," ArenaNet teased in a press release. The giant siege turtle should mix up the combat and traversal mechanics in its own right, too, by introducing Guild War 2's first-ever cooperative mount. Better still, the nine additional elite specializations will further evolve the core gameplay experience.
