Horizon Forbidden West is just about a week away and Guerrilla wants to make sure everyone can get in on Aloy’s next adventure. A new post from the developer dives into the accessibility features that will be available to players come February 18. While those who played through Horizon Zero Dawn will see many of the accessibility features from that game return, newly added ones will open the sequel up to even more players.
These accessibility features are listed out in a PlayStation Blog post from Guerrilla’s Principal Designer Brian Roberts. In trying to bring Forbidden West “to as many fans as possible”, the folks behind the game incorporated a few general accessibility settings that are automatically enabled at the start of the game. These include subtitles and a game menu Notebook. This Notebook is “an expansive encyclopedia containing useful information about characters, machines, and data points found in the world”. There is also an additional Tutorial section to help players with game mechanics or controls.

Forbidden West will also include five difficulty modes. Each one is tailored to offer players the experience they want from the game. These pre-set modes range from the easier “Story Mode” to the demanding “Very Hard”. However, to ensure the game fits any player’s needs, there is also a “Custom Difficulty” setting that allows users to “adjust damage levels that Aloy deals and receives to/from enemies”. Plus, an “Easy Loot” system will automatically place any resource component attached to taken-down machines to loot inventory.
The developer has also introduced several options to make using the controller as accessible as possible.
